I have found a half-life 2 mod called Realms of Valhallon: Age of Campaigns

It will have a complete combat system:

Melee combat
Ground combat
The Grappling system
Siege weapons
Ranged combat

Interview at mod database

I'm currently playing as the barbarian heading into the abyss for the <i>final</i>, final round up (last of the four characters). After this little revival I'll head back to Medieval Total War. I sometimes doubt I'll go through BoD again... but I said that last time. The 3rd person genre lost it's charms for me after BoD. I prefer to look at other types of games than lead a <b>futile search for BoD like games</b>... though I've been saying this since early 2003 and since that time nothing to rival BoD has appeared. Oh, and you can't call it a day unless you've played a load of the custom maps with all the characters as well (Fugitive series springs to mind for a start). [:)]

I'll have to, seriously, play the fugitive series through to the finish one day! [:I]

I had a gladiator addiction at one stage but that wore off. Multiplayer is similarly boring. For me it is the whole plot/storyline and quest aspect that keeps me coming back.

The Fugitive story is more engrossing than the main game, particularly with the use of the talk and allies system in parts II and III. Haven't played Fugitive I since Prospero turned it into a Mod rather than a Map so I can't comment on its current state but there was less storyline in it than the later ones but some very inventive stuff for the time. I'll have to get that new version and play it sometime soon.

Thank you Gorgon for those kind words. (Cheque in post.[;)])

The mod version of FI is not all that different on the surface. There were a few niggly bugs in the orig version but mostly I wanted to tidy up the scripts because there was a lot of repetitive code in it.
In fact I took out about 3000 lines. Also the enemies are more challenging. (In particular the Barbie with the big axe in the courtyard. [:0])

Barb was always very kind, so was Vampire and others. There were no exceptions.

Yeah, I saw the Project Offset vid and immediately thought of BOD, if they can make the gameplay as good as BOD with that engine it will seriously rock.

In the meantime, has anyone yet played Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? I've got this and am just totally addicted. The world is huge (get a horse - it's quicker than walking), you have much more freedom and the whole thing is 100 times more complex and detailed than BOD. The combat element is good, with both ranged (bows) and melee combat, with everything from fists upwards. You can choose to specialise in hand to hand, blade or blunt (clubs/axes/warhammers) and each one has different attacks (fast or powerful, for each of the 4 directions). The combat is also supplemented with magic as well, so you can cast fireballs, lightning, frost, or summon a skeleton to fight alongside you!

There is blood, but not as much as BOD and no mutilations, but still good enough. There are some nice weapons too and you can poison (one shot) or even enchant (permanent) weapons to make things even more interesting. Viewpoint is 1st person by default, but 3rd person is available via a single keypress (you can also change the camera distance via the mousewheel). There is no "lock target" feature however, so combat is better in 1st person. Character generation is so detailed that there are about 8 different options just for the shape of the jaw, giving an infinite variety, plus you can be any of 4 human races, 3 elf races, a feline race, a reptilian race, or an Orc - each with its own unique strengths and weaknesses.

There are dozens of mods, most of which run quite happily alongside others, and the visual and audio experience is simply stunning. No other game has made me just want to stand there in the forest listening to the birdsong as I watch the sun rise. The whole game is just beautiful. Trees blow in the wind, there's real weather - it gradually becomes more overcast before it starts raining, and sometimes you'll get a brief shower, other times you'll get a thunderstorm complete with lightning - and in the northern regions you get snow!!!

I heartily recommend it to anyone here that hasn't played it already, and if you need any more convincing, check out the reviews (and screenshots) at Gamespot. In fact, forget that - just buy it. Seriously. Do it. NOW. :)
