Ran across this link tonight that has some interesting info on designing and developing Drakan 2. It tells the back story of what went right and the troubles they had while trying to meet the deadline for release. There's some concept art of the other creatures Rynn was going to ride too, including a rhino, gryphon, and underwater creature for a water level that got cut. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.

It sounds like the original design for the PC sequel would have been vastly different to the original OOTF PC game. Arokh for only one level? Really? I wonder how the original storyline / plot went for that game. As much as the hate for the change to the PS2 platform was at launch TAG was a vastly superior game to what surreal originally planned Drakan 2 to be.

The game was very enjoyable, the only things I didn't like was the change of the art style and the ending. They could have done so much more than that and the ending suggested they had plans for a Drakan 3. As this was never released I felt it seemed Rynn and Arokh's story was not finished. They didn't do much to explain the transition from OOTF to TAG in the story e.g how did Rynn and Arokh escape from the rift? What was that laughing voice at the end of OOTF?

There's so many loose ends for both games. It's a shame they had to cut the alternate creatures to ride. They would have made some interesting Bosses to fight in any case. And the fact that there wasn't a quest to rescue Perry was disappointing. I was hoping for some closure and a cut scene showing their reunion. It looks like they were planning on making it more of a Heretic 2 style of game with mostly ground levels and just a few places to ride your 'buddies'.

The part that surprised me was that a modified Riot engine was used. The picture that shows the editor looked familiar and has me wondering if it's possible to extract any models from the databases. It would be cool to get some of the PS2 weapons out. Their high poly count would probably not be useful in the original game though. And as a bonus the database is showing the Chicken with it's weapon properties.
