Can't even install (XP)

Post by rodzandz »

Hello ppl.

I'm trying to install this old lass, but I can't even get started.
When I insert the disc, the autorun comes up, and I click install only to have a black DOS screen briefly pop up and disappear.

If I explore the disc, and search the Setup folder, I find that the setup.exe file is a DOS style white box with blue stripe. If I run it, I get the same brief black DOS box.

I've tried compatibility mode with no success.

Any Ideas?

What is the size of your disk, should be over 700 Mb!

What is your graphics card?

Do you have latest DirectX installed?

Thanks for the replies.

The Disc is exactly 538.75MB.
The Setup.exe file seems messed up to me. I don't think it should be a DOS-like white box.

I have the latest DX version up and running.

My System Specs:
Windows XP SP3
Evga 680i Motherboard
Intel C2D E6700
2GB Kinston HyperX PC2-9600 DDR2
BFG Geforce GTX 280 Maxcore OCX 1GB
SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatality

Think the disc is messed up?

Ok. Here are some solutions I read online for other games, not from my experience:

1. Install the game with setup.exe -lgntforce.

2. Copy the whole CD to hard drive, then install from there.

3. install in safe mode.

The soundblaster and geforce cards can have issues but they only occur during gameplay. The game should install even with a known problem card.

The only think I can think of is the game disk is defective / not an original copy or the windows installer files on the PC are corrupted. Ensure you go to windows update website and install all recommended updates. If your installer files are corrupt it should hopefully re-install it. If not you could try installing the windows installer 4 standalone package from microsoft's web site.

Also have you scanned your PC for viruses as these can cause problems installing programs?

Another work around solution!

Download the gold pack, enter the registery files, and see if game plays correctly.
