Creating Water

A new tutorial by snake eyes (Snake77eyes@hotmail.com)

" How to create water in a level "
When you have your level done whith a good landscape and weapons, you could create some water to make the level more beutifull. This tutorial exists out of small steps to make it more easy.

Step 1.
Load your level, if i'm right you should have a landscape already. If you havent, first create one! Create a new layer (the size of the layer depends on how large you want the lake to be) Paint the layer whith triangle textures, create a good shaped lake on the layer.

Step 2.
When your done whith the layer you should click double on the layer (In Layer mode) When the instance properties pop up set the layer type from Floor To Between. And dont forget to calculate the layers visibility!

Step 3.
To let the water fit in the landscape you should create a pit for the water to cover. Make a good sized pit on the lower layer (The layer BENEATH the water layer)\par the best way to do this : Set the sculpt tool's Offset to Hudge Set it's shape to Smooth Slope And Set it's mountain Preview To Thin. Now go to the Limits window. Set the "Do not lower landscape below height" to anny depth you want (depends on how deep you want your lake) Then Select the LOWER LAYER. Dont hide the water layer. Now lower the landscape by clicking on the water of the Water layer. To make the pit right leave ONE square texture from the painted part UNSCULPED Dont lower the landscape there. if you do that the pit wil be to large for the layer to cover!

Step 4.
Now its time to set the layers Properties From ground to Water. Select the Vertex Edit Tool, you wil see small squares all over your layers. Select the WATER LAYER. Now whith the vertex Edit Tool selected Select all the squares by clicking on them. To select them better hold the CTRL button when doing this! When you have all the squares selected go to Instance Properties ( double click or select the small yellow circle on the toolbar) Set the vertex type to : water still, Water Slow Nw Water Med Sw Or one of those. ( Just select one of the Blue collours) Now the Squares should become blue, this means that the layer has been changed to the selected vertex type.

Now you should have some water in your level :).

Thanx to Snake Eyes for this tutorial
