Install BoD on Win 10 64bit

Post by Narfindyl »

Hi all!
I would have a clear guide to install BoD on a Win10 64 bit system. I tried many different paths, without any good result.
Thanks for the help in advance, I want so much to play this gorgeus game on my pc.

1. Install like normal, choose path and all that.
2. install the patch
3. install Bodloader (for mods)
4. install Fogfix mod (to fix fog for OpenGL renderer)
5. install the OpenGL.raster
5. start the launcher
6. choose a renderer (OpenGL, Direct3D etc.) and resolution.
7. choose sound option (Miles Fast 2D is usually the most stable)

Optional for render, install Nglide and then choose 3Dfx instead of OpenGL/D3D.
This is really nice for windowed mode, although, you wont be able to move around the window.
With D3D a simple alt+enter will put you in windowed mode.

That should be it, unless i forget something.

Expect jank, you might have to switch between D3D and OpenGL to bypass possible lockups.
If it does lockup, just ctrl-alt-del, and terminate blade.exe, switch renderer and load back up (its a hassle, i know, but it works to get through the game)
With D3D everything works perfectly well, apart from one thing, black text, to get passed some areas you need to memorize the menu system for saving and loading, again a hassle, but will get you through the game.

For loading:
ESC
Enter
Arrow Down once
Enter
Look at Picture which is monochrome to see which save you wanna load (default is last save)

For saving:
ESC
Enter
Enter
Enter

Howdy,

Over the last year testing my mod ( frequent start ups ) I've found that in opengl if I wait roughly 3 seconds whilst the into movie plays then press space it loads me in almost every time. However, if i just press any key straight away it almost always crashes to desktop.

So I know it sounds strange but it works for me!

cheers,

I'm using GOG version (1.01), do I need to install another patch?
Furthermore, actually the game launcher crashes when I try to select D3D or Voodoo setting.

No, the GOG version is already patched out.

Strange, does it crash if you use the OpenGL one though? If i recall correctly i heard people got the OpenGL raster with the GOG version.

I'm pretty much entering territory im not too familiar with here, since im no technical expert.

Honestly I'm losing hope to play BoD, bugs occur try after try.

Try 1.0
D3d i740 Windows 98, res 1280x1024: it worked for some reason with Sargon, crushed with the others).
Windows 98 compatibility: it seems that this option lock the launch of the Game Launcher.
D3d Permedia, D3d Voodoo and Banshee, D3d, r3Dfx Voodoo 1-2 let the Game Launcher crashes.
rOpenGL it's not recognized, when I try to launch the game it says "Please, configure the video mode".

Try 2.0
I tried to install dgVoodoo following the attached guide, without success.

have you tried Nglide instead of DGvoodoo?

Another thing you could try is to just get a different version of BoD (non-GOG), either physical or digital.
Maybe the GOG version just does something differently. I never tried the GOG version myself, so i cant say.

Hi, here is some info maybe useful:

The changes made under Windows 10-1709 are:
- Activated "DirectPlay" through: Settings / Apps / Programs and Features / Turn Windows features on or off / Legacy Components
- Updated the game to v1.001
- Installed rOpenGL - Set it to 1920x1200a60fps
- Installed BOD Mod Loader
- Installed FogFix v1.2 by Dan Morris (Sir Random)
- Changed Game-folder rights to allow changes by users
- Set compatibility mode for all users: Windows Vista (SP0) / Override high DPI scaling behavior to Application / Disable fullscreen optimizations / Run this program as an administrator

Start up crash fix:
rename the folder ../data/video/ to ../data/video.bak/

Best regards,

Nihilist Militant said this:

1. Install game and patch
2. Download DgVoodoo2 and do d3d actions (MS folder files to Bin)
3. In dgvoodoo2.exe general options choose window mode (only window mode for this, never play fullscreen), in directx choose 1280x960 resolution (or Max ISF), fast video memory and Vsync, others what you want.
4. In game launcher choose d3d and 640x480x32 (this is most important part that remove FPS drops)
5. Now you can play true original smooth game in 4:3 res and without any fog, square, flickers/fps problem.

GOG version is "optimized" for OpenGL renderer. One should try it first.
