Blade of darkness demo now available on steam

Post by sfb »

Hi all,

Just a heads up that the demo for the re-release is now available now on steam.

Devs are wanting feedback etc so start your downloading!

Apparently it's running in dx11 now and the performance is rather poor.

Anyway downloading as we speak so I'll report back soon.

cheers,

Hi all,

Some initial impressions of the demo - copy and pasted from my steam forum post -

This link https://imgur.com/a/6aspwt6 displays some of the issue with aforementioned shimmering.
I have reshade running along with my custom HD texture pack and have tested in both opengl and demo versions. I believe the new demo version is running in dx 11. As you can see by the screenshots linked ( shimmering is hard to notice on a static image but it's still there when zoomed in ) that the dx 11 version appears to have poor texture quality and and no antialising, especially around the ceiling area where the light source is strong. Someone mentioned mipmapping as a potential cause and it certainly does give the appearance of that, especially when using Gl _nearest compared to GL_linear_mipmap_linear in opengl testing. I also generally force all aa settings through the nvidia control panel but it didn't make any difference with demo. So this needs to be addressed.

Apart from that though I'm really enjoying some of the subtle changes such as - hiding the UI completely and adjusting the fov. Even surround sound seems to be working for me at long last!

Performance wise - it's actually running very well on my system - 1080 gtx ssd i7700k 5ghz even with a heavy reshade preset. No stuttering or slow downs at all.

Lastly, the bugs I've encountered.

1. When hiding the UI, some item text is still very large , so it would be great if the UI size also applied when hiding the main UI.

2. The vsync setting appears to be the wrong way around. Enabling it for me allows for full fps.

3. Some level up sound are a bit distorted.

That's all I've found so far. As I said, apart from a few minor bugs and the shimmering texture issues, I'm really enjoying it and can't wait to play the final version.

cheers,

Downloaded and played as soon as i read this.
Worked without any problems for me, felt the same as when using Direct3D back on windows vista or win7.

Yeah I think it's going to be pretty good, it's just the shimmering that stands out for me.

The fov is a nice addition and is fun to play around with too.

I can't play this demo.

I've captured the screenshot of the errors.

This is the error before starting the game:

And this is after the intro and crash of the game:

Does anyone know the solution to this?
Help will be appreciated.

hm, strange.

I would ask if you have the latest driver for your graphics card, but considering im using old drivers myself (since i want to play games and watch movies in nVidia 3D vision) that wont help.

What you should do even if you get help here is to copy paste the error and post it on the steam forum thread, maybe more people have the same problem.

try and reinstall the demo, uninstall, clear the demo folder completely and then reinstall the demo.
if it still doesnt work, see if verifying the files works.

its just a thing to do that sometimes can fix things and heres how to do it:

1 right click the game
2 click on properties
3 click on local files in the column to the left
4 click verify integrity of <insert name> files (in this case 'demo' files)

then you wait, sometimes it takes a long time, sometimes its quick.

Also, try googling "DXGI error device removed" help as it looks like that may be the issue especially is you're using Geforce experience.

Playing around with it myself. I am pleasantly surprised to see BoD finally running basically flawlessly on a modern machine without downloading hacky community fixes. Official release happens tomorrow!
