Good to see you once again, Mr. Haggard. Regarding Demon's Souls, where are the shadows? [:(]

I've no PS3 anyway...

Ah Mr. Crawdaddy, long time no see! Hope you're well.

The lighting in Demon's Souls is actually very impressive. I'm not sure why there's doesn't seem to be a player shadow in that video, it's possible there isn't one although it's not something I've noticed while playing, and since I'm at work right now I can't take a look, but believe me the game looks gorgeous. I'm pretty certain there's self-shadowing going on, and there's definitely very atmospheric real time world lighting.

Some of the huge, bleak vistas you see - such as the castle and surrounding mountains in the first proper level - are absolutely breathtaking and exactly what I'd imagine a modern day BoD would look like.

I've made some more progress now and the combat is actually deeper and more tactical than is apparent to start with, despite having less basic moves than BoD. It's incredibly addictive.

To my mind Demon's Souls is what a BoD sequel might have been like - deeper RPG elements, greater difficulty, more world interactivity, far more items and loot etc, and a very similar bleak atmosphere and realistic, 'weighty' combat. There's also some very imaginitive and brilliantly realised online features, even though it's essentially a single player game (seeing ghosts of other players in your own game, leaving messages on the ground for others to read etc).

Im unsure if anyone has mentioned "Die by the Sword" in these 22 pages, one of my alltime top 5 favorite game.
But thats probably the most similar game to Severance.
It came out before Severance in 1998, its very brutal and got this raw feeling throughout the game.
Great atmosphere like in Severance, you can cut limbs as much as you want, and pick em up and use em as weapons.

If the enemy loses a limb for example a leg, they will hop around on the other til theyre dead, head cut off means instant kill ofc.
You can also cut of 1 of thier hands/arms, or both. For example thier shield arm or thier weapon arm. If you are lucky you cut off both arms and they cant do any damage =)

Great music, Menus, Atmosphere, gore.

Oh yeah, that games has THE best training level ever created. With the awesome voice of Michael York (austin powers) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001868/
"Reckless fool!, not all situations call for the sword"

For those that haven't played it, Die by the Sword is available for digital purchase at http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/die_by_t ... _expansion

I got it, and I didn't like the mouse-control sword swinging... Couldn't get used to it. Kept getting killed.

If you not want to wait...

You should give a try to Age of Conan!

It's an Action RPG game for PC that got many different class of character and you can create your own. You can play online and the gameplay seem to be like BOD since you got total control of each hit you are doing and there also a big list of 'combo'.

I had same idea it is in many way similar games, not all of course, its mature violent with many monsters type.
It even has comboes . The difference is that comboes are not bound to any weapon ,like in BOD ,but can be used on any weapon.

All I want is a graphically updated BoD with decent Multiplayer.[:(]

In the mean time, here's a new one to keep an eye out for. It's called Hunted: The Demon's Forge.
Not much in the way of details but the screenshots looks nice and I like the idea of co-op play.[:)]

Lord of the rings: A war in the north looks quite promissing. The combat in the videos feels quite similar to blade of darkness: deadly, brutal and somewhat tactical. It has a certain a realistic vibe which most similar games lack. In any case I'd recommand watching the show and conclude yourselves :)

Oh almost forgot the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLu2Vq_oDkI
