Arokhs Lair – A Drakan fan site

auralife over at DeviantART sent me a link to her page over there which features some Drakan artwork and fantasy art in general. I need to put the game related artwork on the fan art page sometime this week or link to them on our art page but for now here is the link to the gallery. Most of it is weapons from The Ancient’s Gates.

Faerith posted a challenge on the forums which is to give proof that it is possible to get up to the secret second floor above the main room in the mage’s tower by jumping on the bookcases. If you want to take part visit the link below to the forum post.

There has been an increase in older forum members coming back to us (that’s a good thing) 🙂 who haven’t visited this site since we changed from Snitz 2000 based forum to PHPBB3 last year. An unfortunate side effect of this change was all the passwords had to be reset as they are encrypted and could not be imported. This basically means that if you last visited before August 2012 you can’t log in – I did mass email all members about this but some may not have received it. I also have put a sticky topic on the forums but it seems members are missing it.

Rather than re-register for another account, instead recover your password by clicking the ‘forgot password’ link on the forum login screen and you will be emailled a new one which you can then log in and change. However if you have changed your email address since you last visited then this won’t work – if this is the case just drop me an email and I will change it for you. Ill need old and new email addresses, username & previous ISP to confirm it’s you and not a spammer though.

I’m testing a new game server using the hamachi network as it seems the most reliable way of hosting multiplayer matches. In case you don’t know what hamachi is, well its a really useful utility that enables you to set up a private network so that all connected users appear to be on a local LAN. Please visit our forums for the username and password so you can try it.

I was able to test it with another player but he kept getting disconnected. It would be great to test this further; the server will be running retail levels and working most evenings and weekends GMT time.

I have decided to add some adverts to the main website to help pay for the running of the site. They are not too obtrusive and only appear on the second two posts and the sidebar. I know I did say this site will always be ad free but this had to change. The forum however will stay ad free.

Some of you may remember my earlier posts about a new game that is being made by Larian Studios called Dragon Commander. They now have a new website that has been relaunched at http://www.divinitydragoncommander.com and a forum if you want to take a look. It’s not like Drakan but it’s probably the closest thing you will get to especially if you are dragon fans. Yes – I know I’m supposed to be posting about Drakan here but there isn’t much to talk about yet.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag of genres and does not really fall into any particular category but it’s shaping up to be looking like a cool game with Larian’s usual sense of humour – if you have played any of their previous games you will know what I mean. 🙂

Worth keeping an eye on and best of all there will be a demo so you can try it for yourself.

I have now completed importing the website into wordpress. The old files still remain in their old locations so old links from other sites will still work but there is a redirect set up on the home page to the new content. If you are an existing forum member and would like to contribute to the Drakan blog / news please register and then email me so I can change your account from a standard user to author.

Just a quick update today just to let you know we are still here. Things have gone well since we changed to the new forum software last year and we have had a lot of new members admittedly most of them Blade of Darkness fans rather than Drakan. There has been a few tech support requests so people are still playing the game and trying to make levels. Other than that there hasn’t been any Drakan news to comment on recently but rest assured any updates will be posted here.

The move to the new server and forum is now complete. The forum has been tested and is working OK however some problems did occur when importing data from the old Snitz forums. Users with symbols in their username were truncated so if you are one of these users please contact me. All other changes are detailed on the forum announcements page at the top of the forums.
