Ucyborg has made a patch that fixes the LOD (Level of Detail) with the game so it is optimised for widescreen resolutions rather than the 4:3 aspect ratio of the original game. Forum topic here The patch also fixes the ‘session creation failed’ error when hosting a multiplayer game. The patch is compatible with all versions of the game official or not including the 10th Anniversary patch so it won’t affect your saves or the ability to only play on certain patched servers.

OK, so there seems to be a problem with Drakan not finding game servers with the built in browser. Could be just me but it seems the game fails to get the available server list from the master server. One of our forum members has let me know he has a 24.7 server running and it does work if you add the IP address manually. Go to join game in the multiplayer screen, click add server and then type the following IP address into the box and press OK. Double click on the new server and enjoy!

IP address of 24/7 server (thelastweyrofdrakan) 213.21.5.131

IP address of Arokh’s lair server (eve / weekends GMT only) 212.169.37.181

You can also use this website or this one to see the list of servers currently registered with the gamespy master server. I’d suggest that first as IP addresses are subject to change. Please see earlier posts or visit the forums for up to date information on multi player servers & games. The calendar can also be used to organize matches and games.

There is a wishlist over at good old games which can help to get Drakan: Order of the Flame available as a digital download from GOG.com. It needs way more signatures / comments so if you would like to play this difficult to obtain game please visit and sign the wishlist. There hasn’t been any games like it since; the only thing coming close is Divinity2: The Dragon Knight Saga which I would recommend to fans of the game. You can find the wishlist over at GOG.com here. As for Steam that seems to be more difficult as they seem to only accept submissions from the developer or publisher.

auralife over at DeviantART sent me a link to her page over there which features some Drakan artwork and fantasy art in general. I need to put the game related artwork on the fan art page sometime this week or link to them on our art page but for now here is the link to the gallery. Most of it is weapons from The Ancient’s Gates.

There has been an increase in older forum members coming back to us (that’s a good thing) 🙂 who haven’t visited this site since we changed from Snitz 2000 based forum to PHPBB3 last year. An unfortunate side effect of this change was all the passwords had to be reset as they are encrypted and could not be imported. This basically means that if you last visited before August 2012 you can’t log in – I did mass email all members about this but some may not have received it. I also have put a sticky topic on the forums but it seems members are missing it.

Rather than re-register for another account, instead recover your password by clicking the ‘forgot password’ link on the forum login screen and you will be emailled a new one which you can then log in and change. However if you have changed your email address since you last visited then this won’t work – if this is the case just drop me an email and I will change it for you. Ill need old and new email addresses, username & previous ISP to confirm it’s you and not a spammer though.

I’m testing a new game server using the hamachi network as it seems the most reliable way of hosting multiplayer matches. In case you don’t know what hamachi is, well its a really useful utility that enables you to set up a private network so that all connected users appear to be on a local LAN. Please visit our forums for the username and password so you can try it.

I was able to test it with another player but he kept getting disconnected. It would be great to test this further; the server will be running retail levels and working most evenings and weekends GMT time.

I have decided to add some adverts to the main website to help pay for the running of the site. They are not too obtrusive and only appear on the second two posts and the sidebar. I know I did say this site will always be ad free but this had to change. The forum however will stay ad free.

Some of you may remember my earlier posts about a new game that is being made by Larian Studios called Dragon Commander. They now have a new website that has been relaunched at http://www.divinitydragoncommander.com and a forum if you want to take a look. It’s not like Drakan but it’s probably the closest thing you will get to especially if you are dragon fans. Yes – I know I’m supposed to be posting about Drakan here but there isn’t much to talk about yet.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag of genres and does not really fall into any particular category but it’s shaping up to be looking like a cool game with Larian’s usual sense of humour – if you have played any of their previous games you will know what I mean. 🙂

Worth keeping an eye on and best of all there will be a demo so you can try it for yourself.

I have now completed importing the website into wordpress. The old files still remain in their old locations so old links from other sites will still work but there is a redirect set up on the home page to the new content.
